Two big US airlines say losses continued in '83

Both Trans World Airlines and Eastern Airlines, two of the largest US airlines, reported continuing losses for 1983 Wednesday. Eastern reported a loss of $183.7 million for last year, the airline's worst loss in its 55-year history. The carrier lost $74.9 million in 1982. Eastern chairman Frank Borman attributed the losses to ''relentless increases in operating expenses, plus continued heavy competition that restricted traffic growth and fare relief.''

TWA reported a net loss of $12.4 million, an improvement on the $30.8 million lost in '82.
