USSR says US two-faced in plan for chemical ban

A military-affairs commentator for the official Soviet news agency Tass accused the US Monday of planning to adopt similar tactics on chemical weapons as he asserted it has on medium-range missiles, building up supplies while talking about their abolition.

Vladimir Bogachov said that while Secretary of State George Shultz proposed a global ban on chemical weapons at the Stockholm disarmament conference last week , the Reagan administration was planning a program of investment in nerve gases and chemical shells. ''Thus, Washington again resorts to its absurd ploy - to move toward disarmament through a buildup of the US military potential,'' Mr. Bogachov said.
