Reagan's approval rating at highest point in 2 years

The President's approval rating has jumped to 56 percent - its highest level in more than two years - making him the most popular incumbent since Dwight D. Eisenhower, a Newsweek poll showed Sunday. The 18-point increase marks the highest approval of Reagan in 21/2 years.

An erosion of Democratic opposition to Mr. Reagan was also noted in the poll, with 30 percent giving the President a strong negative rating. Some 58 percent of Democrats opposed the President in September 1982, the magazine noted.
