Two US senators off to see South American leaders

Republican Sens. Howard H. Baker Jr. and Charles McC. Mathias Jr. left Thursday on a six-day tour of Latin America, their offices announced. Mr. Baker (R) of Tennessee, the Senate majority leader, and Mr. Mathias (R) of Maryland, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's international economic policy subcommittee, plan to meet with government and finance leaders in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, and Panama.
