World tourism shifts

December 29, 1983

World tourism patterns, reported by L'Expansion, a French business publication, have been changing. The most sightseeing travel growth has come in visitors to the Mideast as well as in nonbusiness travel to Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Although tourism growth has slackened slightly in North America, it is still the world's leading visitation area.

Biggest foreign-travel spenders on an annual basis are West Germany, $17.8 billion; the US, $11.5 billion; Britain, $6.6 billion; and France, $5.8 billion.
