Argentine Army purged of some senior officers

President Raul Alfonsin has appointed four Army commanders in a purge of senior officers connected to the former military regime. Mr. Alfonsin named brigadier generals to Army commands in Buenos Aires, Rosario, Cordoba, and Bahia Blanca.

Meanwhile, a federal judge revoked the travel documents of former President Reynaldo Bignone and 19 other military and security forces officers under investigation for the disappearance of a technician five years ago. Mr. Bignone is facing another court investigation for the arrest and disappearance of two communist recruits assigned to the War College in the 1970s, when the former President was its director.
