Israeli leaders ponder West Bank security

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Arens, pressed by Jewish settlers to impose stiffer punishments on Arab protesters in the occupied West Bank, said Tuesday he was considering deporting more Palestinians who endanger Israeli security.

Mr. Arens also said the government was considering demolishing Arab houses used as cover by stone-throwing youths. A number of Arabs have been wounded or killed by Army gunfire, and Palestinians have complained recently of vigilante action by Jewish settlers armed with weapons issued by the Army.
