Dutch strikes end; workers take wage cuts

Dutch railroad unions announced Sunday they will end their seven-week campaign of strikes and slowdowns against government plans to cut public-sector wages tomorrow.

The nation hit by strikes following announcement of the center-right government's plans to cut public-sector wages and social security payments by 3 percent in 1984.

Amsterdam sanitation men ended their month-long strike last Friday, and earlier in the week a court ordered an end to strikes and slowdowns by the national postal service and key services in Rotterdam.
