Romania asks US/Soviets to halt missile deployment

President Nicolae Ceausescu of Romania said Dec. 1 that Romania rejected the siting of new medium-range nuclear missiles in Europe by NATO and the Warsaw Pact and urged both sides to cancel their planned new deployments.

''The escalation of the nuclear arms race has no justification,'' said Ceausescu.

Romania's Communist Party Central Committee last week called on the two superpowers to abandon the latest missile deployments, saying that both sides were pushing the world over the nuclear precipice.
