Chinese daily fails to echo leader's threat to '84 trips

The Chinese Communist Party newspaper People's Daily Sunday condemned a US congressional resolution calling for Taiwan to remain a full member of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which Peking has applied to join.

But the paper did not mention any threat to call off a planned exchange of visits by Premier Zhao Ziyang and President Reagan next year, in contrast to remarks by party chief Hu Yaobang in Tokyo Saturday that continued support in Congress for Taiwan could prompt China to reconsider the visits.
