New Greyhound drivers meet US job standards

The government is finding that newly hired Greyhound drivers meet federal standards for training and qualifications, the US Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety said here Tuesday.

Frederick Dunikoski, Greyhound Lines president, said those results ''should lay to rest any residual concerns about the ability of newly hired drivers'' and the safety of resumed operations. The Almalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has criticized the caliber of drivers hired to replace strikers.

Bargaining is at a standstill while ATU locals vote on a Greyhound contract offer, which unofficial reports indicated was likely to be rejected.
