Bangladeshi ruler names new political party

The military ruler, Lt. Gen. H.M. Ershad, said Monday a new political party being formed by his supporters will be called ''Jano Dal'' (People's Party). The party is expected to make General Ershad its presidential candidate.

Ershad lifted restrictions on political activity earlier this month and announced plans to hold a presidential and parliamentary polls next year.
