US hints it may step up aid for Sudan in face of threat

Sudanese President Jaafar Nimeiry was to holds talks with President Reagan in Washington Monday while the US hinted it may provide more military help as tensions mounted between Sudan and Ethiopia.

Sudan has accused Ethiopia of massing troops on the border and said its own armed forces were on the alert. It said 1,000 Ethiopian troops, supported by 150 Cuban and Soviet advisers, were poised with jets and heavy weapons for a possible attack.
