Numerous ballot issues decided by US voters

In ballot questions nationwide, voters expressed opinions on binding and nonbinding measures ranging from Central America policy to tobacco in the office.

Ohio voters defeated a plan to reduce taxes; San Francisco voters upheld a ban on smoking in the office; Seattle voters approved an initiative calling for an end to military aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, as well as the ''secret'' war against Nicaragua; and Maine voters turned down a ban on hunting of the state animal, the moose.
