Gylf envoys urge Syria to end PLO strife

Six Persian Gulf leaders meeting here sent envoys from Kuwait and Qatar to Damascus Tuesday to plead with Syrian President Hafez al Assad to end fighting between rival factions of the PLO in northern Lebanon. The leaders, from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, have firmly backed Yasser Arafat since the rebellion began six months ago. The PLO strife has overshadowed other crucial issues in the three-day Gulf summit, including the Iran-Iraq war.
