Britain would consider joining Grenada force

Britain will consider any request to join a Commonwealth peace force to replace US marines on Grenada, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher told Parliament Thursday.

Shridath Ramphal, secretary-general of the 48-nation Commonwealth, advocated such a force and said the Commonwealth had a major role to play in Grenada, notably in setting up elections.

Meanwhile, a spokesman at a London plastics company said Wednesday that Grenada's military rulers warned Britain at least twice of an ''imminent invasion'' - but the telexes were miscoded and arrived at the company. Company employees found telexes on their machine addressed to the Foreign Office and the ''High Commissioner of the United States of America'' on Barbados.
