Ironwork with a name - for the upwardly mobile

Good news is at hand for the collector who has everything: The Eiffel Tower's 911-step spiral staircase will soon go on sale in manageable sections. The 94 -year-old ironwork steps from the tower's midsection to its 300-yard summit were removed earlier this year to allow installation of four new streamlined double-cabin elevators. The staircase will be cut into 21/2-, 5-, and 7-yard pieces and sold to the highest bidder at an auction Dec. 1.
