Big protest, little violence in Chilean demonstration

The biggest demonstration staged against the Chilean government since Gen. Augusto Pinochet seized power in a coup 10 years ago ended Tuesday night with little violence.

A crowd estimated at between 30,000 and 50,000 attended the rally, authorized by the government and sponsored by a collection of left-wing groups and social organizations. Several injuries were reported, but the relative calm contrasted with five previous days of protest which caused about 50 deaths.
