Texas execution delayed by last-minute reprieve

Only half an hour before he was due to be executed, convicted killer James Autry won an unexpected reprieve Tuesday night when US Supreme Court Justice Byron White granted a stay. The move came the day after the full Supreme Court had refused to delay the execution. Texas officials were considering whether to appeal to the court to overturn the stay, which had been requested by the American Civil Liberties Union.
