Druze guns mar cease-fire at town where foes talk

Druze Muslim gunners shelled Lebanese Army positions Wednesday in Khalde, where representatives of the nation's warring factions were meeting for the first time in the three-day-old truce, government sources said. The shelling was the worst outbreak of hostilities since a cease-fire Monday halted 22 days of all-out warfare between Syrian-backed Muslim militiamen and Lebanese Army troops around Beirut.

Druze militiamen also warned they would shell Beirut airport if the Lebanese government went ahead with plans to reopen it today.
