Last summer's nest

September 21, 1983

The note whose echo sings this golden scene Is real as when it told its praise of June, - Uplifting as a melody which gleaned Its score of summer stars. . . . However soon The loosening leaves betray its careful site, Its cup stills, snow-heaped, - yet serenely here, Bequeathed us by a far bird's autumn flight, This gentle nest enchants the narrowing year.
