Polish crisis pushing up food prices 30% to 40%

Poland's Communist leaders announced 30 to 40 percent increases in food prices to combat the country's worst financial crisis since World War II. Senior party official Manfred Gorywoda told a meeting of economic experts at party Central Committee headquarters that Polish living standards would drop an estimated 4 percent as a result of the increases, the official Polish news agency PAP said Monday.
