US businesses increase outlays on improvements

Encouraged by the economic recovery, American business increased its spending on modernization in the April-June quarter for the first time since the beginning of the recession, the government said. After adjustment for inflation, business spent 0.3 percent more last quarter, the first improvement since the fourth quarter of 1981 when measured in 1972 dollars.
