The anchor of the USS Monitor, retrieved by divers Monday, is the largest artifact ever recovered from the Civil War ironclad that fought in the world's first naval battle of armored vessels. An air bag was used to raise the 1,300 -pound cast-iron anchor 225 feet to the Atlantic Ocean surface. The Monitor sank more than 120 years ago off Cape Hatteras, N.C.
