The Islamic Unity of Afgan Mujahideen, the main fundamentalist group of Afghan resistance fighters, rejected the proposed return of ex-King Zahir Shah at the head of an independent government in Kabul. Abd-I-Rasoul Sayaf, the group's leader, said the group wanted to establish a pure Islamic government in Afghanistan and would not accept Zahir Shah, a Western-oriented Francophile.
