China's treasures tour US

''Treasures from the Shanghai Museum: 6,000 Years of Chinese Art,'' a major exhibition from the People's Republic of China organized by the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco (where it remains through Sept. 30), will travel to Chicago, Houston, and Washington.

Selected from more than 100,000 artifacts at the Shanghai Museum, the 232 objects in the exhibit - all originals - cover the span of Chinese art history from neolithic times to post-World War II. The exhibit includes artifacts excavated in the Shanghai region, bronzes, pottery and porcelains, painting, and applied arts.

The exhibit with be at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago Sept. 30 to Feb. 14, 1984, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, March 16 to July 9, 1984, and at the Smithsonian Aug. 11 to Nov. 30, 1984.
