Right-wing militias agree to end Lebanese sit-in

August 5, 1983

Right-wing Christian militias said they have agreed to end a protest strike and sit-in at a base in southern Lebanon the Israelis had ordered shut. A spokesman for the Phalangist-dominated militia said the Israelis would withdraw their troops from around the base in return for an end to the two-day-old strike. Israel plans to redeploy its troops in the area.
