A series of television commercials designed to scare off hijackers will be aired soon to combat a wave of air piracy, the Federal Aviation Administration says. The public-service announcements will warn hijackers about long sentences in Cuban prisons for those who force US jets to Havana.

The FAA also announced additional security measures to prevent potential hijackings. Fourteen new X-ray machines will be installed at Miami airport to inspect hand luggage.
