Potential trouble reported in US airport operations

A study of several major US airports has found potential safety problems and differences in the way regulations are observed, the chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board said.

James Burnett told the House Science Committee the study of 14 airports found differences in emergency training and plans, runway, and facility maintenance and overall management philosophy. He said no problems requiring immediate action were found, but such potential problems existed as obstructions near airports and control of birds and other animals. The study is expected to be completed later this year.
