Peruvian rebel storms government party HQ

July 13, 1983

A left-wing guerrilla commando blasted the headquarters of the government party here with dynamite and submachine-gun fire, killing three people and wounding 32, police said.

Police sources said they believed the attack was the work of the Maoist guerrilla organization Shining Path, which has been conducting a campaign against the conservative government of President Fernando Belaunde Terry for the past three years.
