A roster of summer programs

July 11, 1983

Besides the Legacy International Summer Program, there are at least two other camps in the United States helping to promote world understanding by bringing foreign cultures alive.

International Language Villages in Minnesota is one program that includes the aspects of language instruction and cultural immersion. Run through Concordia College in Moorhead, nine separate ''countries'' are located throughout the state. Each village is located on a lake and has its own language and culture focus.

More than 2,600 youngsters and staff from 44 countries participate in the program, and more than 40 sessions are available to suit every level of language proficiency. The program's first session began June 6, and it runs through August 20. For more information about the International Language Villages call ( 218) 299-4544.

Interlocken International Summer Camp is a community of boys and girls ages 9 to 15 from around the world. The summer camp is devoted to building friendships with other countries through living together.

Located on 2,000 acres of wooded land in Hillsboro Upper Village, N.H., the camp has a lake and a variety of activities, including environmental education, performing arts, creative writing, and English as a Second Language. The camp sessions began July 4 and continue through Aug. 26. For more information about the Interlocken programs, call (603) 478-3202.
