Third world disappointed at economic conference

A four-week world economic conference ended with third-world delegates deeply disappointed about its failure to narrow the gap between rich and poor countries' views of how to solve world economic problems.

The US dissociated itself from the final statement of the sixth UN Conference on Trade and Development. The meeting failed to issue a planned declaration that was to have been a special feature of the gathering of more than 150 countries.
