Reagan to visit allies in Asia in November

June 28, 1983

President Reagan will visit Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea in early November to stress political and security ties with US allies in Asia. Spokesman Larry Speakes said Mr. Reagan also wanted to visit China, whose relations with the United States have been strained because of American arms shipments to Taiwan. ''Such a trip remains a future possibility,'' Mr. Speakes said.

The White House said the visit to Indonesia would%underline that country's importance in an increasingly interdependent international economic system. Another reason for Mr. Reagan's trip there is that Indonesian President Suharto will be chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations at the time.
