South Africa, rejecting appeals, hangs guerrillas

Three black guerrillas were hanged in Pretoria after South Africa rejected international appeals for clemency. The three members of the African National Congress were charged with attacking police stations, which resulted in four deaths. Thelle Mogoerane, Jerry Mosololi, and Marcus Motaung were all found guilty of high treason and murder. These were the first hangings in four years of militant ANC action. Two convicted murderers were also hanged alongside the three ANC guerrillas.
