June 3, 1983

Lebanese security agents uncovered a plot to assassinate Lebanese leaders and to set off car bombs in Beirut on the anniversary of Israel's June 6 invasion of Lebanon, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz said.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces in south Lebanon have arrested over 100 people, mainly Lebanese, in the last 48 hours and set up a women's prison camp for 50 detainees, mainly Palestinian, the independent Beirut daily An-Nahar reported. An Israeli military spokesman outside Beirut confirmed that Israeli forces had made arrests.
