Supplier of 'Hitler diaries' may have forged them

May 19, 1983

The West German magazine Stern said the man who supplied the fake ''Hitler diaries'' probably forged them himself. Stern said it had asked an expert to compare samples of the handwriting of the man, Nazi memorabilia dealer Konrad Kujau, with the script in the diaries. The expert said there was evidence that both came from the same writer. Mr. Kujau, in custody and awaiting questioning in Hamburg, denied that he wrote the ''diaries'' himself.
