Nicaragua detains 3 boats, 7 Americans

Nicaraguan Navy patrol boats detained three pleasure craft carrying seven Americans and escorted them to port, US officials said. White House spokesman Larry Speakes confirmed in Washington that the craft were seized Tuesday and that the United States had asked Nicaragua for permission to visit the detained crew members. A Nicaraguan spokesman would neither confirm nor deny the seizure.
