Iraq missiles strike southern Iran city

May 13, 1983

Iraq launched a major missile attack on the southern Iranian city of Andimeshk, Tehran radio said. It said rescue workers had found at least 16 people killed and more than 100 injured in the attack. The city lies 280 miles southwest of Tehran, in the Iran-Iraq war zone. In a weird twist, Iran also accused the Soviet-backed regime in neighboring Afghanistan of supporting the Communist Tudeh Party.
