Paint that works with PVC pipe

May 6, 1983

Q. Is there a paint that will adhere to polyvinylchloride (PVC) pipe? Charles E. Preisig Fort Bragg, Calif.

A. The Frazee Paint Company of San Diego makes a product called M16 Metal Prime, which contains a small amount of phosphoric acid and is fortified with epoxy.

The paint works well on PVC when the pipe is prepared carefully and is absolutely clean before the primer is applied. Because some users do not carefully follow the directions, Frazee has decided to ''pass'' on recommending M16 for PVC pipe.

I suggest you go to your local paint store for its recommendations on a PVC pipe paint and process.
