Baltimore picks Elway in pro-football draft

April 27, 1983

Stanford All-American John Elway was the first-round pick in this year's National Football League draft. He was chosen by the Baltimore Colts. But the Colts may not get Elway, because he is also being wooed by the New York Yankees baseball team. He had informed them that he might pursue baseball. The second pick was running back Eric Dickerson of Southern Methodist University , who went to the Los Angeles Rams. Number three was Penn State halfback Curt Warner, who went to the Seattle Seahawks.
