Chancellor Kohl to visit Washington and Moscow

April 5, 1983

No dates were set, but Helmut Kohl plans to visit Washington and Moscow. An official statement said President Reagan invited the West German chancellor on March 30 to a working visit; the same day the Soviet ambassador to Bonn extended an official invitation. It will be Mr. Kohl's first trip to the Soviet Union since becoming chancellor. He has made closer ties with the United States one of his priorities, but has said he is willing to improve ties with Moscow as well.
