Thai soldiers repel Viet troops in Kampuchea

April 4, 1983

Thai troops repelled a Vietnamese thrust across the Kampuchean border after two days of fierce fighting, military authorities said. Meanwhile, some 5,000 Kampuchean refugees fled into Thailand after 16 hours of shelling by Vietnamese forces trying to wipe out all resistance groups on the Thai border. They join 26,000 other refugees forced to flee to Thailand since the Vietnamese began their offensive Thursday, Monitor contributor Neil Kelly reports.
