Girls' apparent poisoning causes West Bank unrest

March 29, 1983

Israeli officials said they had found no evidence to explain the apparent poisoning of hundreds of Palestinian schoolgirls on the West Bank. Medical and police teams investigating the mystery announced there was no proof of poisoning as yet and further laboratory tests were needed. But the incident, which has caused the hospitalization of more than 300 teen-agers from six girls' schools, did set off fresh unrest in the West Bank towns of Nablus and Jenin.
