Chicago mayor to seek reelection on write-ins

Mayor Jane Byrne, who lost the Democratic mayoral primary to black Rep. Harold Washington, announced she will conduct a write-in campaign in the April 12 general election.

Mrs. Byrne, who had earlier endorsed Mr. Washington, said neither his candidacy nor that of Republican Bernard Epton is ''in the best interest of the people of the city of Chicago.'' She denied any racial motivation for her dicision.
