2 foreign journalists killed during El Salvador battle

March 16, 1983

Two foreign journalists were killed in a clash between Salvadorean troops and leftist guerrillas near San Salvador Monday, the Army said. The Armed Forces Press Committee did not identify the journalists, whose bodies were found in the foothills of the Guazapa volcano. The committee said 20 bodies had been found after Monday's clash, including those of the journalists.

The Army announcement followed unconfirmed reports that two journalists had been killed while covering a battle near Suchitoto, north of San Salvador.
