Police restore order in Miami's Liberty City

March 15, 1983

Police restored calm to the Liberty City district of Miami, where black youths hurled rocks and bottles and stoned officers who tried to break up an outdoor dance party.

About 500 blacks attending a dance party at African Square Park in Liberty City - site of racial riots in May 1980 - poured onto the streets Sunday night when police asked them to turn down the music, authorities said. Some shots were heard by officers during the violence, but there were no reports of gunshot wounds.
