Soviets give frank report of Afghanistan bombings

February 28, 1983

Kabul was hit by three major bomb blasts last week in which several people were killed and more than a dozen injured, the Soviet army daily Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) reported.

The report, which claimed the bombs had been set off by guerrillas, was the latest in an increasingly frank series of Soviet media accounts of the situation in Afghanistan. The most recent reports have made clear to Soviet readers that the guerrilla forces pose a serious threat to the pro-Moscow government and have also begun to mention the killing of Soviet troops.
