Security Council to review Israel's West Bank policy

The UN Security Council will convene Friday at the request of Jordan to examine the question of Israeli settlements on the West Bank, Monitor correspondent Louis Wiznitzer reports.
Discussions on the matter were postponed last fall so as to not interfere with President Reagan's Mideast peace plan. But with the Palestinian National Council meeting Monday in Algiers and a nonaligned summit starting March 7 in New Delhi, the Palestine Liberation Organization wants the West Bank problem to be discussed. The United States has opposed the settlements, and declared them ''not to be helpful to the peace process.'' But informed sources say it is far from certain that the US would support a resolution condemning Israel's settlement policy.
