Three Afghans wept as they vividly described, at a news conference in New York, the Soviet massacre of 105 men and boys of the small town of Padkahwab-e-Shana last September. Their tears bore poignant testimony to the barbarism being inflicted on a proud land.

The Soviet Union also has its ''My Lais.'' But where are the impassioned cries of self-condemnation?
