League of Women Voters affirms abortion choice

January 21, 1983

The League of Women Voters marked the approaching 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion by ending its neutral position on the controversial subject.

The league adopted a position ''affirming the constitutional right of the privacy of the individual to make reproductive choices.'' The league's national president, Dorothy Ridings, said 92 percent of members responding to a survey were in favor of the new position, ''an unprecedented level of positive response."
